Welcome to Fairlington, VA
Fairlington is a unique community. Despite the military use of what is now Fairlington, the area retained a rural character; mostly wooded, with some small farms, into the 20th century. On the eve of America’s entry into World War II, President Roosevelt called in an architect to design housing for the wartime executives who would soon be working in and around Washington.
By 1947, 3,439 apartments were built making it one of largest apartment complex in the nation at that time. After the war the government sold the project to two Texas businessmen, Leo Corrigan and Leland Fikes. Under their management Fairlington became the first stopping place for many newly appointed or elected government officials.
In 1972, the two Fairlington projects were sold and converted from rental homes to condominiums. What is modern day Fairlington, a division of seven condominium villages was completed in 1978.
Today, Fairlington reflects the charm of times gone by. Brick colonial style, slate roofs, and tree-lined streets are a testament to the expert planning. The unique sense of community is affirmation of the love that Fairlington’s inhabitants feel for its past and their commitment to its future.
Fairlington remains a very well preserved example of the Colonial Revival style in Northern Virginia and in the Washington Metropolitan area. With one, two and three bedroom, one or two bathroom condos and townhomes all of varying sizes and designs there is a home that will fit everyone’s needs, budgets and lifestyles. Many have hardwood floors, balconies or lovely outdoor patio spaces. Conveniently located, it straddles the 395 corridor making an easy access to the Washington DC business and social scenes. It is also just steps to local restaurants, shops and grocery stores.
