Daylight savings time begins 2:00 AM on Sunday, March 9th. And in springing forward, we want to take the time (no pun intended) to provide you with a handpicked list of oversized clock ideas. When positioned just right, oversized clocks create a great focal point, inviting viewers into the theme and drama of a particular room. Whether you’re a current homeowner looking to spruce up your environs, or a seller simply looking to stage a space, oversized clocks are a great, inexpensive way to create authentic and memorable experiences for guests or visitors. Below are some common uses we’ve seen in our 25 years of real estate:
1. Simple/Minimal Accent
Adding a minimal on-the-wall clock to a room is a great way to maximize white space. When sitting higher than all other vertical visual elements (the number 12 is close to ceiling), the room is completed and doesn’t seem secondary to the overall look and feel.
2. Above Console Table
Adding an oversized clock above a console table is a sure way to add drama to an entryway or dining room. Be absolutely cognizant of the current theme of the room and objects, and find a clock that closely matches the aesthetic.
3. Office
In an office with a desk or couch positioned in the middle of the room, adding a wall clock as a backdrop element centers the scene and brings attention to the person sitting. Flank with bookshelves for added display and faux architecture effect.
4. Living Room
Staging a room with a stand up clock up at the end of a loft is a great way to connect the floor with the ceiling. Putting it on top of the mantle has a similar effect, and is a great way to replace awkward family photos.
5. Kitchen
No kitchen is complete without an oversized clock. Having one in the kitchen a great way to connect the living room or dining room, and pull multiple spaces together. If you have extremely high ceilings and lots of open space in your kitchen (and an boring wall), get yourself a clock!
There are plenty of other spaces we’ve seen with large clocks, including patios, game rooms, and behind wet bars. Here are some links to some clocks and designers we think are absolutely fabulous:
