After many delays and hours of testing, The WTOP reported late Friday, that the Silver Line is to go active July 4. This spells quite a bit of convenience for commuters living in Tysons Corner, Reston, Herndon and places just off the beaten path of route 7.
Phase 1, an 11.4-mile segment – as laid out by silverlinemetro.com – will include five stations, which include McLean, Tysons Corner, Greensboro, Spring Hill and Wiehle-Reston East. Phase 2, the final 11-mile segment will open in 2018, and will stretch to Reston Town Center, Herndon, Innovation Center, Dulles International Airport, Route 606, and Route 772.
The Silver Line is expected to process nearly 25,000 boarding’s (one way) per day – or, 50,000 if taken to and from. Since many of the Silver Lines’ riders will be transfers from the Orange Line, there is likely to be fewer rush hour trains, which is said to eventually eliminate Rush +.
Similar to the Orange and Blue Lines, the Silver Line will travel through all major hotspots in Downtown Washington, including Farragut West, Metro Center, L’Enfant Plaza, and Stadium-Armory.
What does this do for developers? Well, the Silver Line is stirring up quite a frenzy to build new places for shopping, homes, and office space. This Northern Virginia area – which was more or less a small neighborhood 20 years ago – may just turn out to be an enticing economic powerhouse.
